Can I create rules on the email server to bounce messages? |
| |
| No. We do not allow customers to create a ‘bounce’ rule as it causes undue stress on the email system and is proven to be ineffective in discouraging unwanted SPAM or otherwise unwanted emails, as these emails usually have a return address that can not be resolved. We instead recommend that our customers use the features offered by their desktop email clients. |

Do you provide a WebMail client which I can check my email with? |
| |

www.xs2mail.com
www.mail2web.com
www.e-mailanywhere.com
Your mail server is simply mail.yourdomain.extension, for example mail.website.com. In addition, you will need your password. |

Someone is trying to send me an email but receives an error that the IP is blocked. How can I fix it? |
| |
|
Answer: In an effort to reduce the amount of spam that is received by our mail servers we currently use several RBLs (Realtime Blackhole List), such as the ones listed below, to help screen out spammers from sending their unwanted mail over our mail servers. Before accepting an incoming email, our server reference the RBL for the connecting IP address. If the IP address matches one on the list, then the connection gets dropped before accepting any traffic.
It may also be important to note that some ISPs will choose to blackhole (or ignore) IP packets at their routers.
The RBL usually lists server IP addresses from ISPs whose customers are responsible for the spam and from ISPs whose servers are hijacked for spam relay. Often this is a result of an email server being identified as an "Open Relay".
Sometimes a block of an ISPs IP addresses will be listed in the RBL because of a few bad IP addresses. At this point if an email is blocked it may indicate that a range of IP addresses, which includes the sender's IP address, are listed in the RBL.
In order to correct the issue, we suggest the following options:
-
Request that the ISP who owns the IP address contact the administrator of the RBL to have the IP address removed.
-
Encourage the user to switch to a different ISP that does not permit spam being sent over their mail servers.
Please note that we at YourNameEmail.com are unable to edit the RBLs and we cannot get an IP address removed for you.
This spam blocking feature may be an inconvenience for you. However, there is no doubt that the benefits of the system by far outweigh the disadvantages by significantly reducing the massive volume of spam which is received daily. We will do our best to ensure that we make use of only the most reputable RBL lists, and in turn we encourage anyone affected to contact their ISP and strongly encourage them to seek delisting from the RBL in question.
The current list of RBLs which we use are as follows:
LIST.DSBL.ORG (http://dsbl.org/main)
RELAYS.ORDB.ORG (http://ordb.org/lookup/)
DNSBL.SORBS.NET (http://www.dnsbl.au.sorbs.net/lookup.shtml)
BL.SPAMCOP.NET (http://www.spamcop.net/bl.shtml)
SBL-XBL.SPAMHAUS.ORG (http://www.spamhaus.org/lookup.lasso) |

How do users subscribe or unsubscribe to a mailing list? |
| |
|
Answer: You can set up and configure your mailing list by contacting Tech Support.
To subscribe or unsubscribe to a mailing list, following the completion of the set up and configuration, users need to send requests to the mailing list as follows:
| Subscribe: |
Send an email with the words "Subscribe me" in the subject line to listname-subscribe@yourdomain.com |
| |
|
| Unsubscribe: |
Send an email with the words "Unsubscribe me" in the subject line to listname-unsubscribe@yourdomain.com |
When a message is sent to listname-subscribe@yourdomain.com, the sender will receive a confirmation message. When a reply is sent to that message, the sender will immediately be added to the mailing list. Once the user has been added to the list a WELCOME message is sent automatically.
When a message is sent to listname-unsubscribe@yourdomain.com, the sender will receive a confirmation email. After replying to that message the user's email address will be removed from the list and a GOOD BYE message is sent automatically. |

What happens to my email when I reach my disk space quota? |
| |
|
Answer: The YourNameEmail.com plans include a fixed amount of disk space, which is by default divided equally between each account in the plan. (To make adjustments to these allocations, please contact Tech Support.) This is hard quota, and it will in fact prevent you from receiving any further emails to your account if it is reached. We therefore recommend that you set your email client to remove the emails from the server after downloading.
YourNameEmail.com may allow you to change the default disk quota to a soft cap which will allow your account to receive more emails and use more disk space than your quota. In that case we will bill you at a rate specified in the Service Plans table per MB per month for the overage. Please contact Tech Support to enable this setting. |

Are their any options for handling spam? |
| |
|
Answer: Our email service is automatically configured to add #SPAM# to the subject line of any message suspected to be spam. This allows you to apply client-side rules on how to handle the message.
A second spam handling option is available. This option will automatically delete all messages suspected to be spam before you download them. However, since no anti-spam system is perfect and there is a small possibility that legitimate emails occasionally will be deleted, you will need to make the decision to activate this option and take full responsibility for any erroneous deletions that may occur. To activate this option, please contact Tech Support. |

How can I get rid of spam? |
| |
| Answer: By contacting Tech Support, you may activate an automatic deletion of all messages suspected to be spam so that they never reach your inbox. However, since no anti-spam system is perfect and there is a small possibility that legitimate emails occasionally will be deleted, you will need to make the decision to activate this option and take full responsibility for any erroneous deletions that may occur. Another way to block spam is to install a spam detection software package on your computer. One useful program, called Spam Fighter, becomes part of Microsoft Outlook and has been known to be a good spam gatherer.
Below are some anti-spam sites that you can visit to get more information on how you can block spam from getting to your mailbox:

What is a "POP3 email account"? |
| |
|
Answer: POP is short for Post Office Protocol, which is a standard protocol for client-server e-mail systems. A POP3 account is a standard Internet mailbox. Email going into a POP3 account will be stored on the mail server until you retrieve it using an email client. For more information on how to retrieve email, please refer to "How do I check my email?" or "How do you configure SMTP?" |

What is a mailing list? |
| |
|
Answer: A mailing list is a list of email addresses that are stored on your mail server that you can access through a single email address. This allows you to send an email to a single email address and have it distributed to all the email in that mailing list. This is useful for sending out a newsletter or announcement.
The mailing lists have an initial limit of 30 users per list but additional users can be added for a fee per user. You can also add additional mailing lists, if you need them. Please refer to Service Plans for pricing.
NOTE: Some plans include a certain amount of free mailing lists. Please refer to Service Plans for the features of your particular plan to see how many are included. |

| I am unable to send email despite using the correct configuration in my email client. |
| |
|
Answer: In an attempt to control unsolicited email (spam), some internet service providers block port 25, which is the port on their server that is used to access third party SMTP servers. If you experience technical problems sending email, then you will need to use an alternative port for sending emails with the YourNameEmail.com service. Please contact your Internet Service Provider for more information about available ports.
If your ISP does not allow the use of third party SMTP service, you will need to set your email client to send emails via your ISP’s SMTP. You may still configure your email client to display your YourNameEmail.com email address as the sender’s email address and as the return email address so that the recipient will not notice any difference. Please see your email client’s ‘Help’ for further information about how to do this, or contact Tech Support. |

Do you provide SMTP support? |
| |
|
SMTP (Simple Mail Transport Protocol) services are provided with all YourNameEmail.com service plans. To send out emails, you will need to configure your email program to use our SMTP server. Each email client is slightly different when it comes to setting up email accounts and accessing the configuration settings. For specific information about the settings, please see separate item. |
